Dr Ashton
trained at Oxford University and St Mary's, London. Subsequently,
he trained in General Medicine in the UK (1974) and then in South
Africa 1975-77. Dr Ashton immigrated to Australia in 1977 and was
a Senior Medical Registrar at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney (1978)
and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Perth (1979).
A Visiting Medical
Officer (VMO) Consultant Physician at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital
for 10 years, it was then Dr Ashton developed an interest
in gastroenterology, which subsequently contributed to the development
of Endoscopy services within this region.
In 1990 he moved to Canberra
as a VMO Consultant Physician at Calvary Hospital. He has a strong
interest in General Medicine and in training
and development of Medical Units. He is a Director of Brindabella
Endoscopy Centre with an interest in the delivery of high quality
endoscopic care and effective results monitoring. Dr Ashton also
provides medical, endoscopy and gastroenterological services
to Cooma Hospital and the surrounding district.
