Brindabella Endoscopy Centre was established in 1995
by the 3 gastroenterologists who owned Mugga Wara Endoscopy Centre
with 3 other leading Canberra
endoscopy specialists to provide a state of the art endoscopy
service on the south side of Canberra.
In addition to providing gastroscopy and colonoscopy services,
Brindabella Endoscopy Centre also provides less commonly needed
gastroenterology investigations:
Oesophageal Manometry and 24 Hour pH monitoring
has been available since 1999 for the assessment of complex problems
involving the
oesophagus
Capsule Endoscopy which allows remote visualisation of the whole
of the small intestine was introduced in 2003. Since May 2004
this procedure has been partially funded Medicare which has made
it
an affordable test for most patients needing this procedure.
Mugga Wara Endoscopy Centre
Mugga Wara was relocated from Civic to the National Capital Private
Hospital in 1998 so is now only 400 metres from Brindabella Specialist
Centre. Although Mugga Wara is located in the National Capital
Private Hospital, it is operated by gastrotrACT with gastrotrACT
staff under its own private hospital licence.
Being located in a private
hospital provides the opportunity to carry out procedures
on in-patients of the hospital
and to undertake
more invasive therapeutic procedures that might require the
patient’s
admission to hospital for post-procedure care. These procedures
include:
Band ligation of oesophageal varices
Placement of stents in the oesophagus, duodenum and colon
Placement of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tubes
